Hand lettering

A friend of mine recently had a birthday, at her desk at work she's printed out some quotes that she likes and put them on the wall next to her computer. I thought a fun present would be to illustrate some of the quotes. This was the first time I'd used so much hand lettering and different styles of writing. It was really fun to make, and I think I'm going to experiment a lot more with hand lettering.

Watercolour classes

Since moving to France I've been attending watercolour classes. I really enjoy them and have been learning so many new techniques for watercolour painting. The lady who teaches the classes is wonderful and very patience, and always has great ideas of how to improve your painting. It's always a fun night we bring food to share and enjoy good conversation as we paint.
Here is a selection of paintings that I have completed at the classes, the first was using masking fluid, the second with a great technique: using salt. It makes the watercolour divide and creates interesting patterns.
The last two is about creating a gradual distance within the painting.
It made me realise that there are always new techniques to learn in art, and that I should never stop experimenting.

Discovering French Illustrators (1)

What I love about living in France and being able to visit a french library is that I get to discover amazing french illustrators. Recently, I found this little book: L'ombre d'igor by Juliette Binet. It has beautiful, soft illustrations about a boy called Igor and his shadow.
